July 2002

Fourth of July
This year we decided to go the Provo parade. It had been five years since we had last gone, so obviously Elliot and Clark thought this was new and fun. We found a great place in the shade to watch and while we remembered water and treats, I forgot the camera. However, later that evening we celebrated with sparklers and homemade ice cream. I had a lot of fun experimenting with my digital camera. See if you can find the Olympic rings!

Swimming with Cousins
On a hot day in July, I got together with my sisters to write new words to a song to be sung at Melinda and Jared's wedding breakfast. While we were brainstorming the funny new words, all of our little kids were having water time fun! Lucky Clark - getting to hang with all the beautiful babes! Who thinks Megan should get a bigger pool???

Goofy pictures
Clark got his Kindergarten shots this month (just four shots!) and after it was all said and done, he got to choose four surprises from the nurse's surprise drawer. These glasses were a kick - I had Elliot put them on - they matched his shirt so well....

Swimming Lessons
Well, we survived another round of swimming lessons. Elliot made great progress (breathing is everything...) and now can be called an official "swimmer." Clark went from not wanting to get his face in the water to being able to pick up coins off the bottom of the pool and humming his favorite tunes under water while splashing around in a "looks like swimming" attitude.

Melinda and Jared's Wedding
The wedding was wonderful! Elder Kofford married Melinda and Jared in the Salt Lake Temple in a beautiful ceremony. The spirit was sweet and we all felt that my parents were with us to enjoy the occasion. We enjoyed a nice wedding breakfast at the Lion House where the Morgan siblings and spouses sang their silly song about how Melinda's finally found what she's looking for...and Jared's sister sang "When I Fall in Love." His parents each said a few words and our Uncle Mark (my Mom's brother) commented in Melinda's behalf and then Jared and Melinda each spoke for a few moments. One guest from each table also got a chance to share something interesting about M & J. We found out some rather surprising things about Jared: for example, in high school he liked to sleep in the buff, and was uncovered in that state by his female cousin! Then his family found out a few funny things about Melinda: for example, how she came to be kissed by the prime minister of Poland!

Melinda and Jared's Reception
The reception was so nice. The flowers were lovely and Melinda's beautiful wedding portraits were displayed. There was a video to watch of the couple in their younger days up to and including wedding scenes from the Temple earlier that day. Phillip and Loren along with a couple of girls from Waterford formed a quartet to play in the background, Tess and Madeleine sat at the book and Elliot and Clark got to take the gifts from the guests. It was fun that everyone got to participate. My favorite part was getting a chance to see all my parents' friends and neighbors from the Ensign 5th Ward, the ward we all grew up in. I still have a warm feeling from being hugged by people who have known us our whole lives and who loved my parents so much. I wish my parents could have been there. I know they were there in spirit and I know they are happy, but I wish they could have been there to hug all their friends and to hug all of us. What a happy day it will be when we are all together again.
