March 2005

Spring Break

We started the month with a two week Spring Break from school. Yeah! And, amazingly enough, the weather totally cooperated and we had wonderful warm spring days. We even spent an afternoon at the park with Melinda and Karen. The boys made the immediate switch to shorts and now I have a hard time getting them back into long pants despite the cooler temperatures!

Over spring break we did a number of different things, from going to the dentist (not their favorite they will admit), to going to see The Slipper and the Rose musical at the Hale Center Theater. We threw in some eating out, some bowling and lots of just fun down time at home and the time went fast. Oh, and Tess made a few more dollars working at Jamba Juice a fair amount.

Elliot's Birthday

We had another birthday in March. Elliot turned 11 years old and we had another birthday party at the church. This time we did a glow-in-the-dark sports party. All the kids had glowing bracelets and we put some around the rim of the basket and then of course, the we used a glowing ball. It was really fun to watch a bunch of glowing bracelets and ball going up and down the court, but pretty impossible to take pictures!

Arrow of Light Award

The next week Elliot received his Arrow of Light scout award and "graduated" from the Cub Scout program to the Scout program. The ceremony was really cool -- this guy came and performed a whole ritual of asking Elliot if he was truthful and then taking his neckerchief and lighting it on fire. The whole thing flamed up and then it put itself out, leaving it unburned. Apparently this result means that Elliot did tell the truth! It was actually really cool!

Young Women Meeting

The girls and I were lucky enough to have tickets to go down to the Young Women General Broadcast at the Conference Center. We had a fun girls night out, having dinner at Mimi's, attending the conference, and then taking a drive up into the Avenues to see the view from the house I grew up in. It was fun to show the girls around my old stomping grounds a bit.

Elliot on the Marimba

So this month was kind of about Elliot. To finish off the month he had a chance to play Solfiegetto on the marimba again in front of the whole Lower School. They had a Fine Arts Concert and featured various aged kids on various instruments. There had been a lot of piano and violin, so when they wheeled the big marimba into the middle of all of the kids, they started to ooh and ahh -- it was very cute. I could tell they thought Elliot was so cool that he could play this cool instrument!

Easter

We had a nice Easter. This year Alan's mother Pat invited us all over for dinner and it was really yummy. It's kind of nice to go to the party once in awhile instead of having the party (only you moms will understand), so thanks, Pat.

Loren and Phillip

A quick note about Loren and Phillip. They are both working hard in their second year of college at BYU. The semester seems to be rapidly coming to a close and the pressure is on. They have been able to come home for a day here and there, but for the most part have been really focused on school. They have decided to attend Spring and Summer terms and have found off campus housing with one of Phillip's current roommates. I think they are having a great experience.
