Last April, Alan and I got to get away (on the company) for a long weekend. We had heard great things about Monterey and Carmel, so we decided to see it for ourselves. It was wonderful! The coast is so beautiful and there are so many cute, fixed-up, and usually very expensive looking houses right across the street from the coast. The foliage next to the coast was blooming with a beautiful brilliant purple flower (the picture doesn’t do it justice!)
We drove to Carmel which is famous for its art galleries and had fun wandering around the galleries and a myriad of other little shops. We also visited the light house (I love light houses!) where we were given a great tour by a woman who was dressed up as the first woman light keeper to work there.
Monterey has a 17 mile drive with beautiful spots along the way where we stopped to read the plaques. There is a Cypress tree there that is supposed to be over 200 years old, a rock covered with seals and a beautiful golf course. We made sure we were driving around the coast to see the sunset which was really beautiful. One evening after it had been raining slightly, during a delicious seafood dinner in a pretty hotel, we looked out the window to see a complete double rainbow over the ocean. Rainbows are such a marvel and a miracle to me.
To top off the trip we visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium which in my opinion is one of the best, if not the very best aquarium we’ve ever been too. The jelly fish display was two stories high in a quiet part of the building where they had ethereal music playing and benches were you could just sit and watch all the jelly fish dancing in the water. It would be fun to take the kids there sometime.
It was a great trip and if you ever get a chance to see that part of California, we would highly recommend it to you!
