Elder Brown is serving now in Curahuasi Peru. He loves the branch which has about 150 people in it, even though apparently only 35 or so members actually attend. They are guessing that about 60 of the members they have records for have moved and these days it’s quite a job to get their records moved out as well (as any ward clerk will tell you.) He loves the area and says it’s very beautiful. It was so fun to be able to Skype with him for Mother’s Day. We’ve never Skyped with a missionary before, and it was so great to see and talk to him. He’s still has his fun loving personality with a little extra maturity added on.
So Kenyon and family have been living with us since February and will be with us until July. His dad has an internship at Notre Dame this Fall for a year, and their townhouse in Provo sold, so we get the fun of having Kenyon wake up every morning at our house asking for Gama and Papa…oh, and sometimes, pancakes! He is learning to talk and is a little parrot as he tries to copy everything we say.
Madeleine and Alan have the April birthdays. This family is pretty steeped in tradition, so of course we had Halusky for dinner and poppyseed cake for dessert. So fun to have the family together!
A little Easter get-a-way just for me to go down and spend a few days with my sister and her family in AZ. Almost a bit on the too hot side (90’s) we had good time getting our toes done, shopping, lunch out, playing with the kids, bike riding, session at the brand new gorgeous Gilbert Temple and the Easter pageant at the Mesa Temple.
Thanks to Pat & Wally, we got to spend a delightful week at the Marriott Resort in Newport Beach. We invited our good friends, the Lundgrens to go with us and we had a wonderful time, relaxing, sight-seeing, eating good food, attending the temple, playing games, and oh, getting sunburned doing water aerobics. Don’t ever, ever, ever think that you don’t need sunscreen! 😉
Christmas is always wonderful. I just love the holidays which I consider to be all of November through December. I always look forward to it and then amazingly, when it’s over, I’m happy to put it all away and look forward towards another new year.
After spending the first 18 weeks of his mission in Puno, Peru, Elliot was transferred to his new area in Juli. It was hard for him to say good-bye to all the people he had come to know and love. They were all very kind and sent him off with a special dinner, cake and gifts.
Juli is apparently out in the middle of nowhere, so now his letters sent through DearElder have to go to Lima, then Cusco, then Puno and then Juli…I guess that’s why it takes about 3-4 weeks to get there! I’ve just had to decide that nothing about it is every going to be fast or efficient. What do you expect when there aren’t even any addresses?
