Sisters Day

I have 3 sisters and 2 sisters-in-law and we have decided that we want to have a monthly Sisters Day. Melanie planned the first one and since it was the week of my birthday, she decided that now that I’m 50, I should “really” start living life, so my sisters took me “flying.”

I would never jump out of an airplane, but for a couple of minutes today, I felt like I had. It was really fun and not at all scary! Watch the video. A really fun surprise to the whole day was that my sister Melinda flew up from Arizona to surprise me and got to be here for the first Sisters Day! We did miss Elasha, who couldn’t join us because she has a brand new darling baby.

Nifty nifty, look who’s 50!

Yup, it’s true. I’m getting older along with everyone else…happens every year. Actually I had a great birthday week with many nice Facebook messages, cards, phone calls, treats and gifts. I recognize that I have such wonderful, thoughtful friends and family and am very grateful for all of you.

To make it easier on the family, we celebrated my birthday and Clark’s birthday together. Somehow I lost the candle blowing pie photo, so just a few fun family pics.

Michelene gets a job…

After nearly 30 years, I’ve started working again. I’ve been hired as a substitute teacher at Waterford School. So far, I’ve taught Nursery 3’s (preschool), All-day Kindergarten, and 4th Grade. I’m hoping to be able to teach a couple of days a week, but the nature of being a substitute is rather like being on call…so we will see. I don’t want to hope that some teacher will wake up sick tomorrow, but it would be nice 😉

Clark’s Percussion Recital

Clark has been practicing hard and this week was able to perform a marimba duet, play in a marimba quartet and play jazz piano with 3 professional musicians. Of course it all sounds better in real life, but we did record a couple of the pieces for your listening pleasure, should you be interested.

Clark turns 16 years old…

Happy Birthday to Clark, who is now old enough to drive, date, and become a Priest. Ha ha…sounds kinda funny for a Priest to start dating!

Our final driver gets his license

The day did finally arrive and I can say that while I congratulate Clark on receiving his driver’s license, I congratulate Alan and myself on surviving 6 student drivers and all that entails…driver’s ed fees, endless gallons of gas, driving 240 hours, 12 visits to the DMV, higher insurance rates and endless “exciting” moments in the passenger seat trying to make calm suggestions regarding braking, stopping, looking, looking again….

And so, after driving kids to and from everything for nearly 28 years, I am officially finished being the family chauffeur!

Also as a result of turning 16 years old, Clark was ordained to the office of a Priest in the Aaronic Priesthood. That Sunday, he, Alan and Elliot all blessed the sacrament together in sacrament meeting. It made my mommy heart happy!

Elliot called to serve a mission in the Peru Cusco Mission!

Last night with the family gathered around and Kelsey close by, Elliot opened his mission call to learn that he will be serving in the Peru Cusco Mission, entering the Lima Peru MTC on Wednesday June 5th. He’s super excited about Peru and being able to continue learning Spanish which he studied for 6 years at Waterford.

After the big news at our house, he and Kelsey left for her house so that she could open her mission call with her family. She has been called to serve in the Argentina Buenos Aires South Mission. Also Spanish speaking and also entering the MTC on June 5th – she goes to Provo though!

Watch the video of Elliot opening his call!
