May 2005

School Ends...

May was a busy month as always. Tess finished Club Volleyball, Elliot was in a percussion recital, Tess and Madeleine were in a Strings concert at school, Tess had a Vocal concert, and Elliot and Clark were in their Spring Sing school concerts. That stuff was all too hard to take photos of. I definitely have a new appreciation for sports photographers; almost every volleyball picture I've ever taken has been out of focus. And there is nothing exciting about a photo of a bazillion kids all dressed alike and far away on a stage in a big group. So we don't have many photos this month -- I'm sure you're really sad....!

Mothers Day

We did have a nice day on Mother's Day -- well, I especially had a nice day. Alan brought me breakfast in bed and the boys came up from BYU and spent the night. Alan's parents came over with Aunt Shirley and we had a nice family dinner altogether.

Birthdays for Loren, Phillip, and Tess

The highlight of the month was celebrating Loren's, Phillip's and Tess's birthdays over the Memorial Day weekend. The boys turned 20 and Tess turned 17 and I realized I must be getting pretty old. I'm starting to feel like Golde from Fiddler on the Roof -- "I don't remember growing older. When did they?"

We decided to celebrate Tess's birthday on Phillip's and Loren's -- they were used to sharing, so what's one more? Just one great big party! We had Chinese take-out, cheesecake and lots of presents. The boys stayed the whole weekend and on Memorial Day my extended family all came over for lunch. We were supposed to get together and help Melinda and Jared with their deck, but alas and alack, the pouring rain dampened our plans. Wouldn't you know it though, as soon as everyone had left, the sun came out! Well, at least we got a couple of good hours of yard work in after all. It was a great weekend. I love being surrounded by family. How lucky we are to live so close to each other.

...Summer Starts

So, the school year came to a close and we are headed into what promises to be a great summer. I do have to remind the kids that even though they are on vacation, it doesn't mean that Dad and I have nothing to do! We have made some goals and planned some fun things, so I know the time will fly by -- time always seems to do that these days. I just try to enjoy every minute.
