Mother's Day and Missionary Update

I have always enjoyed Mother's Day, but you all know that the highlight of the day is getting to talk to our missionary. This year we got to call our cute girl, Tess in Poland. We had a great connection and got to talk to her for about 45 minutes. E-mails are fabulous, but it is so wonderful to be able to hear her voice — especially her fun laugh! She is doing well. At the end of the month she was transferred from Poznan to Warsaw. Of course everything is new all over again, which isn't her favorite thing, but she gets along with her new companion and is excited to be in a branch of 50 that meets in a real live chapel instead of the small branch in Poznan with only 8 members. And, because they have so many more members, the missionaries don't have to teach R.S. and Institute, and they don't have to be in charge of the FHE's. So now she will be able to concentrate on being a missionary full time!

School

Clark and Elliot finished up the school year with a final band concert. The percussion group got to perform several numbers including a 12-person garbage can drum line. Yup, it was pretty loud alright! The rest of the month was super busy with essay papers and art projects due — and a lot of studying for finals. They both did well and are the happy survivors of the 7th and 10th grades — very ready for summer!

Newlyweds

Exciting news from Loren and Anne — since they will be in Provo for four years of graduate school, they decided to quit renting and buy their first home. They found a great townhouse in Provo just south of the cemetery. They had to do a little fixing up here and there and then we spent a Saturday helping them get moved. We left them with everything in the middle of all their rooms, so they have had some work getting all moved in. How fun to put your first home together!

Memorial Day

On Sunday we took an afternoon drive to take flowers for my parents and Bob and Shirley in the Salt Lake City Cemetery and then to Alan's grandparents in the Holladay Cemetery. On Monday we headed down to Provo so Alan could see Loren's and Anne's new townhouse and so we could find my great grandparents, The Morgans, who are buried in the Provo Cemetery. On the way home we stopped at the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery on the hill in Edgemont to take flowers to the Breinholts. We don't usually get down to Provo, so that was fun for a change this year! Monday night we had a birthday celebration for Phillip and Loren. It was a nice relaxing holiday weekend.

Birthdays

Phillip and Loren after 4 years apart, finally got to spend their 25th birthdays together! We celebrated with a summer picnic dinner on the deck. It was wonderful to finally have some good weather! Grandma brought one of her famous oatmeal birthday cakes and we pulled out the 1986 scrapbook to show Anne photos from their 1st birthday party. It is hard to believe I have children who are 25 years old — their Dad is 50 and their Grandpa is 75...kind of cool!
