October 2002
Fun with Aunt Shirley
October seemed to zip by with many fun activities and
projects. We've started taking Alan's Aunt Shirley on "field trips" to spend
more time with her and to get her out of the house to see a few things. On our
first outing, I took her to do some shopping and then I brought her over to the
house to spend some time with the kids after school and have dinner and family
home evening with us. She helped make the pizzas! Our second outing was to take
her down to see the Conference Center. She had mentioned that she would really
like to see where they hold General Conference and so when we had the
opportunity to get tickets for BYU's World of Dance we asked her if she would
like to go and she was thrilled. We all really enjoyed the program in the small
theater and then Alan got her a wheelchair so we could show her the rest of the
building. We even took a tour on the roof where none of us had ever been yet. It
was a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun. We are looking forward to future
"field trips."
Fire Station Field Trip with
Clark
Clark and I both took our first trip to the fire
station along with the rest of the Waterford Kindergartners. It was very
impressive and informative. The bus ride could have required several Advil, had
it been any longer than five minutes away from the school. As it was short
though, three to a seat and noisy chaos was fun! Clark thought it was great fun
to have his Mommy there and I thought it was fun because it took me six kids to
finally get into a fire station. Maybe no one else ever got a fire station field
trip....?
Mothers Day at Waterford
Every year in October, they have Mothers Day at Waterford
where Moms can go to school with their kids. Because we have six kids, they each
only get about an hour and fifteen minutes! But, it is something especially the
younger kids really look forward to and although I am pretty tired at the end of
the day from tromping all over campus with a folding chair, I really enjoy it
too. I've been going now for twelve years, but I've never taken a camera until
this year, so now we have a record of Mother's Day. By the way, I even went to
early morning seminary with Tess. No wonder the kids are all exhausted by the
end of a school day. I was tired and I didn't have to do any of the work, haul a
ton of heavy books or look forward to an evening of homework!
Halloween
Halloween is always fun. From picking out pumpkins to
carameling apples to figuring out costumes - it all feels like Fall. This year
was cold for trick or treating, but at least it wasn't windy or raining! The
kids all had costumes that we could sneak other clothes under so they didn't
seem to mind the cold. If you are impressed by our caramel apples, all the
credit goes to our cousin Josie and her gourmet touch - she taught us all we
know....
