Recognize his artwork?
Electra Havemeyer Webb (1888-1960) was a pioneering collector of American folk art and founded Shelburne Museum in 1947. The daughter of H.O. and Louisine Havemeyer, important collectors of European and Asian art, she exercised an independent eye and passion for art, artifacts, and architecture celebrating a distinctly American aesthetic. Shelburne's remarkable Impressionist paintings are exhibited in the Electra Havemeyer Webb Memorial Building, which re-creates six interiors from the Museum founder's 1930s Park Avenue, New York City apartment.
This portrait, which the Museum purchsed in 1996, was made at Mary Cassatt’s country house outside Paris, where Mrs. Havemeyer and her two daugheters, Adaline (9) and Electra (7) were visiting. It hangs in the entry.
A re-creation of their New York apartment living room with its original artwork.
A beautiful original Degas. It was a great opportunity see all this wonderful artwork up close and personal.
A beautiful collection of Tiffany lamps.
A couple of pretty trees in the cemetery in Bedford NH, close to Melora's home. I got there about a week or ten days before the color was peaking...
It is always difficult to make travel plans based around Mother Nature!
I did feel rewarded for my efforts though!
Lunch at Melora's before heading to the airport for my flight home.
