September 2002
School
Another year of school is under way. The kids all seem to enjoy
their teachers and being back with their friends. It takes a little while to settle
into the new routine, but I think all the kids just about have it figured out. This
year we have three in high school, one in middle school and two in elementary school.
Clark has now officially joined the ranks and is going to all day kindergarten. What
do I do with myself all day? As my sisters would tell you, "Some day you'll
understand!"
Tess Playing Volleyball
Tess's team is undefeated after ten games! She goes in as the setter and is seeing a lot of playing time. I'm still trying to learn how to take pictures of athletes in motion!
There are a few games left if you want to see her in action.
Clark and Madeleine Playing Soccer
Madeleine and Clark are both playing soccer this fall. This is
Madeleine's fourth year and Clark's first. Clark is quite a bit taller than the
other boys and seems to be a real asset to his team as he is the only one who seems
to be able to score a goal (that's aside from the goals sometimes scored for his
team by a member of the opposing team forgetting which direction they're supposed
to be going! Aren't five-year-olds great?). Well, the season started a couple of
weeks late, so there are still plenty games to come watch if you are interested.
Just click on the schedule.
Bowling for Family Home Evening
We're trying to have some fun family home evening activities on
a Saturday here and there because we always have our FHE lesson on Sunday, so we
decided we need to schedule some time to "play" together as a family. So, we went
bowling. When we got there were we surprised to discover they were having "Cosmic"
bowling which is bowling in the dark with glow-in-the dark balls and pins. The kids
thought it was wonderful, but it was a little hard to take any decent pictures.
I never want to go bowling again. Not because I did terribly, but because (I'm
going to brag here, so quit reading if that bothers you!) I bowled the best game
of my life. I bowled three strikes in a row following a spare - I guess that's
called a turkey - what do I know? Plus I got another strike later in my game for
a score of 158! You need to know I'm not a bowler...
New Hampshire
I spent the last week of September in New Hampshire visiting my best friend Melora
Collette and her family. It was very fun to stay with them in their new house and
spend time "catching up" on each other's lives. Alan joined me later in the week
and we spent the weekend as couples, driving around the area. Friday we went north
looking for colorful leaves, but this year we just got there too early or it had not
gotten cold enough yet, so we were somewhat disappointed in the fall foliage.
However, Saturday we spent at the coast in Maine. We got to visit Nubble Light
House, one of my favorite light houses and Ogunquit, a very quaint spot on the
coast. The weather was beautiful and we got some great pictures.
