Thanksgiving in Arizona

On the way to Arizona, it was so cold that by the time we got to Nephi, something to do with our windshield fluid froze, so when we stopped to get gas, I ran into the convience store to get a cup of hot water and the guy said to go ahead and take the whole pot! Madeleine thought it was funny and took a picture.
It wasn't funny that the hot water trick didn't work and we had to keep driving with poor visibility from all the spray up off the road. Once we got to warmer temperatures, the fluid started coming out again!
Have you ever seen a rainbow cloud before? We never have. Oh the fun of road trips!
And so the Thanskgiving dinner preparations began. Jared always makes pumpkin, apple and banana cream pies -- yum.
Elliot and Clark peeling a pomegranate for the fruit salad -- a true labor of love!
Two year old Daniel Crapo has a complete and total fetish for anything with a cord that plugs in. He came running when he heard the beaters start up and Melinda decided to let him help whip the cream for the fruit salad.
Jared's prize winning turkey all ready to be carved.
I made my famous homemade rolls...
and of course some honey butter to go with them. At Elliot's suggestion, we tried putting cinnamon in some of it -- yum again.
In addition to Jared's turkey, we also had a turkey that they had ordered from their ward "turkey" committee -- some people who decided to dig a big pit in their backyard, put cans of Dr. Pepper into the turkeys, wrap them up, cover them with coals and slow cook them all night. Alan and Jared were careful to contain all the yummy juices to make a very nice gravy.
Some like to cook the dinner (Jared's favorite part!) and some like to eagerly await the dining moment.
Dinner is ready to be served!
