This is William Randoph Hearst's private library filled with hundreds of books -- many of them first editions. That is a portrait of him on the wall at the back of the room.
The kitchen was huge, clean and very functional.
The indoor pool was 10 feet deep and beautifully reflected all the magnificent tile work on the walls and ceilings. The part jutting out half way down the left side of the room is a diving platform.
They look like rocks, but they are all elephant seals sunning and barking away on the beach.
This little guy had managed to pull himself all the way up to the path of tourists. As I walked away, he bent his head back to be able to keep his eye on me -- it was cute.
Looking down the beach to the pier. Our last day at Pismo Beach was gorgeous and a bit warmer.
Looking up the beach the other direction.
As the sun was starting to set, we went ahead and walked out to the end of the pier. People were fishing and there were several surfers to watch.
Nice of him to pose...

Another attempt at self photography.
We were happy to get a sunset on the beach.
Heading to Monarch Grove to see all the migrating butterflies.
We were told by the ranger lady, that these two particular butterflies were mating. She was there to keep anyone from interfering!
On the way to Solvang we stopped to have Andersen's famous split pea soup for lunch. It really was good -- but then again, we both love split pea soup!
Here we are in Solvang -- a quaint Danish village right in California.
